What is Gonzo Journalism?

The great American author Hunter S. Thompson coined “gonzo journalism” as journalism without a claim of objectivity. In other words, writing gonzo indicates that the journalist’s point of view is clearly taken into account on the page, and it allows the writer to explore a more personal side of the story being told. 

Stories can get very wild, like in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which shocked 1971 critics for the insane drug shenanigans Thompson depicts in the book. It’s an insane novel, but reading it feels like you’re listening to a friend rant — you know, the best kind of storytelling.

Why did we create GonWld?

Do you ever read an article, wondering when it’s going to end without the visual relief of a photo or illustration to help you understand what you’re reading? We definitely have. 

So that’s what we’re trying to help with at GonWld.com. We want to practice effective and useful journalism while providing you with enough stimulation to keep you interested. Having our own website further allows us to act freely as journalists and designers, fostering creativity that the reader can benefit from.

Hello friends, family and strangers alike, I am so glad you have come across our little ‘passion project’, GonWld. As the designer and illustrator of this site, it is my personal goal to make your reading and viewing experience as pleasant as possible. 

I wanted to combine my passion for art with my appreciation for literature by bringing my illustrations into the digital sphere, and in turn, bringing Liam’s stories to life. Take your time exploring the site and if we have done our jobs right, it should be a wild ride.
